Extreme Fire Weather Event
August 17, 2023
Our region is experiencing the most extreme potential fire weather of any day so far this year. We have not seen conditions with this much negative potential in several years.
According to the National Weather Service, the area is currently under a Red Flag Warning with temperatures predicted to be as high as 105 and wind gusts as high as 50 miles an hour.
Because WVFD is committed to the safety of our community and in response to this extreme threat, Wenatchee Valley Fire has taken action to call back as many off-duty and volunteer firefighting personnel as possible. The result is, in addition to the normal daily staffing of 6 engine companies, a ladder company, two Battalion Chiefs, and a helicopter, we have three additional brush trucks, two extra tenders, and one additional overhead staffed for the day.
Please exercise extra caution today and avoid any potential fire starts.
